Rock bands cause defness.
Chris and Craig missed
Def
Leppard, who were playing in Kamloops,
but apparantly, the deer didn't. About 5 minutes after Def Leppard's
busses pulled out onto the highway, Chris and Craig pulled out, and
found the still warm carcass of a deer that one of the busses had
apparantly struck. Since that was the only traffic they saw on the road
at the time. Chris skinned out the deer and salvaged the meat, he will
be turning it over to the Mountie station in Quesnel when they stop
there. In Alaska, it's common for such meat to be donated to shelters
and the like, not sure how the Canadians are going to deal with that.
We'll see :) Mind you, Chris could always ask them, as the band is
playing in Seattle on the 25th, which is when Mum is flying in to
connect with Chris for the Seattle to Oklahoma stretch.
Who knows, maybe Mum will have time to catch the concert at the
Colliseum :)
Unfortunately, shortly after cleaning and butchering the deer, The
altenator on the Ural died, (but not from being struck by a bus) and
they had to limp along with Chris running on the battery alone. Craig
had gone ahead when Chris's alternator had died, and when Chris didn't
catch up, he came back, having found a fox carcass for the study. They
decided to make camp and get some rest. Of course, when they pulled out
a few hours later, Chris blew the back tyre on the Ural (again) and they
had to stop again to swap out the wheel.

They pulled into Quesnel around noon, and will be getting some sleep,
and food, before heading out again this evening. Since it's Sunday,
there isn't an alternator to be found, and none of the shops that can
repair the broken one, are open. So Chris plans to buy an extra battery,
and they will keep swapping it in and out of the Yamaha and let that
machine charge one battery, while the other powers the ignition on the
Ural. Don't know how well that's going to work in the dark, with the
lights, but I'll find out when he calls tomorrow.
