Spent Sunday moving. Well, spent two hours Sunday moving.
Living on a boat has advantages in that department. Fired up the diesel, left dock at 13:00, and were tied up at the new dock 75 minutes later. Had to get back to the old marina to pick up the Suzuki, (won't fit on board of course) and there's a storage unit to get into and throw most of away. But we are moved.
New marina has 5 min access to the puget sound (instead of 1 hr min) Which will hopefully allow us to go sailing more often. Fewer excuses now.
Just a note that Kat and I are enjoying a (busman's for her) holiday in UK. Mostly around London. With short visits to family and friends in the wilds of Norfolk and Suffolk. (some might say that Norfolk has nothing but the wilds, but I'd digress, most villages have pubs, and a pub, is all you really need for civilization to flourish)
Yes, it's that time of year again. Time for me to trek out to Orofino Idaho and spend a day making longrange shots against small targets that explode when hit. It's a blast! See www.boomershoot.org for details, and join us next year if you can!
Pictures to come.
The verdict is pretty much in, Vista sucks, and even MS knows it.
Publicly, MS claims great numbers of Vista licences sold. Over 100million in a year!
Only problem is, there were more than 230 Million desktops/laptops sold in that year, so even ignoring the huge numbers of folks who dumped Vista off of their new machine, and put XP or Linux on it, that means that Vista shipped on less than half the PCs shipped. Oops. Not good for the OS that was supposed to take over from XP.
Thanks to an troublemaking coworker I (and Kat) have been drug into the dark world of MMORPG, specifically, World of Warcraft. Hey! we don't watch TV, we have to do something to kill braincells and widen our nether regions.
Now, for those of you not afflicted with this particular social dysfunction. MMORPG (Massive Multi-player Online Role Playing Games) are kind of like "lets pretend" with rules and computers.
Weather oustide is cloudy and cold (for Seattle, about 4DecC) and I am inside, with a bad cold, staying home from work, but feeling compelled to log in and stare at computer screens. Go figure.
Kinda rough here at the moment, Boyd Grice, a neighbour and friend of ours here at the marina passed away this weekend.
He will be missed, he was a genuinely good person, with nary a bad word to say about anyone except politicians, and a beer and a joke to hand to anyone.
We are having a wake on sat, at the Lock and Keel, a local tavern that Boyd (and the rest of us) frequented.
Looks like Techshop is coming to Seattle after all.
Jim Newton, the founder, will be in town the first week in Oct, to talk and meet with folks on details. There will be an event on Oct 4 for prospective members and those interested in seeing TechShop come to Seattle, I will be there, as will some of my co-workers, being gearheads. Will you?
See Events for details on where and what.
Lathes and lasers and welders oh my!
How do I convince them to open one in the Seattle area? that's all I want to know.
